Lesson 6: Memory

Memory

The subconscious mind is where our memories are stored.

The conscious mind has a very short term memory of only about 25-seconds.

The unconscious mind will remember something forever, not that it is always perfectly accurate, however if it has been filed away into the database of files the subconscious mind stores, then the subconscious will be able to access it with a “knowing” about the memory.

The subconscious mind keeps a logged database of pictures and experiences we have encountered throughout our lifetime. When asked to recall that image or experience if it immediately comes to mind, that is because the subconscious mind doesn’t need to think about it, it is quickly able to go into its database of files and pull up that memory with an innate “knowing” rather than a “thinking” process.

Every memory we have is stored in the subconscious mind. This is also why specific events can trigger us. Because when a specific situation comes up, the subconscious mind pulls from that memory and reacts with a pattern that it has learned/developed over the years of programming.

So the next time you feel yourself reacting, you can ask the question – am I reacting to this specific situation or am I reacting because of a memory of something similar that happened. This kind of awareness and question will begin changing your life to be less reactive and more responsive.
